Myth Buster!
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 12:32PM Harassment Myth # 4: Only women are sexually harassed.
Are you kidding me? Many men, as well as women, are branching out into fields once populated exclusively by the opposite gender. An influx of new workers often creates tension that is sometimes expressed as harassment. The harassment is meant to make the target feel uncomfortable in order to drive him/her from the job. This can happen to both women and men. Have antidiscrimination laws helped break down the barriers to employment? Of course, but the potential for and reality of sexual harassment continue to segregate genders in the workforce. Remember that harassment doesn’t have to come from a co-worker, it can also come from a third-party (client, customer, or contractor) who enters your workplace. We’ll get into third-party harassment next time.
