Myth # 13: Most rapes occur in dark alleys.
Whatever you do, keep out of dark places! Don’t go running around in parking garages! Don’t pick up hitchhikers! That bush in the park looks suspicious! Okay... seriously. You know what this myth is doing? Blaming the victim! You never, never, never ever blame the victim.
Plus, rapes don’t only happen in the dark alley. As a matter of fact, they hardly ever happen in the dark alley. Most rapes are committed inside the home of the victim, or of the victim’s friend, or relative, or neighbor. Why? Because most rapists aren’t strangers.
